  • Why do Murf bikes use 52 Volt Batteries? + -

A 52-volt battery offers several advantages over lower-voltage options, such as 48-volt systems. Here's why we choose 52 volts:

    • More Power: A higher voltage allows your e-bike to deliver more power to the motor, resulting in better acceleration and the ability to tackle hills with greater ease.
    • Superior Range: 52-volt systems are more efficient, helping you go further on a single charge compared to lower-voltage systems.
    • Increased Lifespan: Operating at a higher voltage reduces the strain on the battery, leading to a longer overall lifespan.
  • What kind of brakes does Murf bikes use? + -

Murf bikes are equipped with Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, providing reliable and responsive stopping power for a smooth, safe ride.

  • What motors do Murf bikes have? + -

  • How far can I travel on a single battery charge? + -

This will depend on the battery equipped on your bike. If you have the 15ah battery, you will be able to range from 35-50 miles. If you have the 20ah battery, you will be able to range from 40-60 miles.

Mileage is influenced by various factors, including terrain, temperature, rider weight, any additional gear, and level of pedal assist or throttle use.

For example, riding on a lower pedal assist level such as 1 or 2 will preserve the battery longer than riding with throttle for your entire journey.

Check out some of our range test videos to learn more.

  • Is the battery removable? + -

Yes, the battery is easily removable, but the key also serves as an added security mechanism on Murf bikes, as removing the key will disable the motor, prohibiting thieves from riding off with your bike.

To remove the battery, press the key inwards and rotate counterclockwise.

  • How can I see a Murf in person? + -

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

  • What regular maintenance should I perform? + -

Regularly check tire pressure, clean and lubricate the chain, inspect the brakes, and make sure all bolts are tightened.

Routine inspections will keep your bike running smoothly and safely.

  • How can I take care of the brakes? + -

Check brake pads regularly for wear and tear, and make sure the hydraulic system is functioning properly.

If you feel reduced stopping power, it may be time to replace the brake pads or bleed the hydraulic system.

  • When should I take my bike in for service? + -

It’s a good idea to service your bike at least once a year or every 500 miles, whichever comes first.

However, if you notice any unusual noises, reduced braking power, or changes in performance, have it checked by a professional sooner.

  • How do I clean my Murf bike? + -

Wipe down the frame and components with a damp cloth and mild soap.

Avoid using high-pressure water, especially on electrical components like the motor and battery.

Ensure everything is dry before riding again.

  • Are Murfs able to go through water? + -

Yes, to a certain degree, but please make sure not to submerge the motor, battery compartment, or any other electronic components as that may cause significant damage.

If the bike is wet after a ride due to rain or a puddle, please clean and dry the wet spots thoroughly.

*Electrical damage due to water exposure is not covered under our warranty.

  • How do you maintain the battery when not in use? + -

For battery storage, avoid keeping a fully charged battery unused for long periods; instead, maintain a charge between 40% and 60% to extend its life. Discharge and recharge the battery every 2-3 months, ideally by riding your bike, and avoid deep cycling as it can shorten the battery's lifespan. After storage, fully recharge the battery and leave it on the charger for 30 minutes to 1 hour to balance the cells. Avoid storing or charging the battery in extreme temperatures, and never charge it in freezing conditions. Please refer to this battery care guide if you have further questions.

  • Will rust develop overtime on my Murf eBike? + -

Not if properly taken care of. Murf’s design utilizes steel hardware and an aluminum frame. Keep components such as chain and gears clean to avoid corrosion and poor performance. Do not store outside preferably. Prolonged exposure to the elements especially coastal areas will result in rust buildup on the drivetrain.

  • What is the best way to protect my tires from getting a flat? + -

While nothing is certain as sharp objects and debris can puncture your tire while riding, there are some things you can do minimize the wear and tear.

    1. Keep your tires properly inflated. Be sure to check before and after each ride.

    2. Pay attention to the tread. Just like a car, the more miles you put on your bike, the more tire treads will get worn down over time, making it more succeptable to a flat. Be sure to get fresh tires before they start to feel bald. If unsure, check with a bike shop or give us a call.

    3. Ask Murf or your local bike shop to add Tannus liners inside your tire. While we can't guarantee 100% puncture proof, it's darn close and adds a layer of protection to your bike and gives you piece of mind that you are less likely to experience a blow out.
